Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) is the main cause of cognitive impairment in patients with sepsis. The infiltration of inflammatory signals into the central nervous system (CNS) via the compromised blood-brain barrier (BBB) represents a crucial step in the pathological progression of SAE. In particular, T-helper 17 cell (Th17 cells) has been suggested to be highly correlated with the activation of central immune responses.
