As shown in Table 2, the AQ total score and the four AQ subscale scores (social skills, attention switching, communication and imagination) were found to be positively related to the executive dysfunction score, and negatively related to the cognitive reappraisal score (Ps < 0.01). Deficits in emotion regulation (ER) have been found in persons with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and they are less likely to employ adaptive ER strategies. However, the underlying mechanism for this remains unclear.
