在重巫轻医的历史传统下，以行傩逐疫、端午风俗为代表的祛疫民俗在清代湘民生活中占有重要的地位。它们影响着人们对待疫病的态度和处理方式，承载了一定的社会防疫功能，并以公开集体的方式维护了区域群体的价值观，一定程度上起到在长期疫病侵袭下稳定湖湘区域社会的作用。
