After analyzing the latest pathophysiological developments of immune dysfunction of sepsis, and Chinese medicine's cognition about sepsis's etiology and pathogenesis, commonly used therapies and these therapies' effects on immune function, we proposed that the Chinese medicine's researches on sepsis should be further ongoing to promote immune balance as a guide.
