近代湖南坊刻书业兴盛,清光绪到民国中期以邵阳、长沙两地为主的民间书坊出版了大量医学书籍。他们以雕版印刷为主要生产方式,出版对象和刻印量切合社会各阶层及不同医疗环境的需要。所刻医书注重实用价值,兼备专业性与通俗性,随营销流传各地,客观上为近代湖南普及医学文化、应对社会医疗问题做出了重要贡献。

During the prosperity of mill block-printed edition, many medical books were published in the private mill blocks in Shaoyang and Changsha areas from the Qing Guangxu dynasty to the middle of Republic period.
