OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated variation in blood pressure (BP) in hypertensive subacute stroke patients performing eight different types of active movement, and variations in BP over time. METHODS: The study included 35 subacute stroke patients (60 - 74 years old) and 15 age-matched healthy volunteers. Ambulatory systolic and diastolic BP was measured over 4 consecutive days, before and during active movement. RESULTS: The greatest effect of the different active movements in stroke patients was on mean systolic BP variability (BPV). There was a significant difference in systolic and diastolic BPV between stroke patients at different time-points and compared with healthy volunteers. Systolic BPV during shifting from the ward to the rehabilitation centre was significantly higher than for all other active movements. Mean systolic BPVs during the sessions on the first and second days were significantly higher than for the sessions on the third and fourth days in stroke patients and compared with healthy volunteers. CONCLUSIONS: Systolic BP was found to be increased in hypertensive subacute stroke patients during their first and/or second attempts at performing active movements. Therapists should consider the BP of hypertensive subacute stroke patients during these first two attempts, especially for activities involving the patient moving from the ward to the rehabilitation centre.

摘要:
The effect of acupuncture at the acupoints of 12 meridians on gastrointestinal and cardiac electricity in healthy adults was studied. Specific regulation between meridian points and viscera was also investigated. An electrogastrogram (EGG), electrointestinogram (EIG), carotid pulse graph, phonocardiogram and electrocardiogram were obtained in 30 healthy adults before and after acupuncture at various acupoints of 12 meridians. The effects of acupuncture on the amplitude and frequency of the EGG, EIG, pre-ejection period and the left ventricular ejection time were then analyzed. Acupuncture revealed that LR3 decreased the amplitude of the EGG while LI11 (Quchi), SJ5 (Waiguan), ST36 (Zusanli), SP9 (Yinlingquan) and SI6 (Yanglao) increased the amplitude. Multiple comparisons among the latter five acupoints indicated that there were significant differences between SP9, LI11, SJ5 and ST36 (p < 0.01, p < 0.01, p < 0.05) and SI6, LI11 and SJ5 (p < 0.01, p < 0.05). SP9 effected EGG amplitude the most, followed by SI6, ST36, SJ5 and LI11. Four acupoints increased the amplitude of the EIG (p < 0.05), including HT5 (Tongli), GB34 (Yanglingquan), SP9 and SI6. No significant differences were observed between these acupoints, but SI6 showed the most obvious effect on EIG amplitude, followed by GB34, SP9 and HT5. No significant effects on the frequency of the gastrointestinal slow wave or on cardiac function indexes were observed. Effects were observed, however, on pre-ejection period and left ventricular ejection time. Routine acupuncture had no detrimental effects on the stomach, intestine and heart in healthy adults, but instead regulated physiological function within a normal range. These findings demonstrate the existence of specific connections between the meridian points and the viscera. The results suggest that multiple meridians control the same viscus, and the same meridian can regulate the functions of multiple viscera.

目的:观察针刺"内关""足三里"对心肌缺血模型大鼠孤束核(nucleus of the solitary tract,NTS)c-fos表达及心电图ST_Ⅱ的影响,阐明延髓初级中枢在"内关""足三里"穴共同调节心功能中的作用.方法:将36只雄性SD大鼠随机分为生理盐水组、模型组、足三里组、内关组、偏历组及合阳组,每组6只,腹腔注射异丙肾上腺素造成心肌缺血模型.电针治疗20 min,采用抗Fos蛋白免疫组织化学技术观察大鼠NTS内c-fos表达和电生理技术观察大鼠心电图ST_Ⅱ的变化.结果:心肌缺血模型大鼠NTS内c-foS的表达明显增加(P<0.01),而足三里组、内关组与模型组比较,NTS内c-foS阳性细胞数均明显减少(P<0.01);足三里组、内关组NTS内c-foS阳性细胞数显著低于偏历组、合阳组(P<0.01).足三里组、内关组大鼠缺血性心电图ST_Ⅱ电位值显著降低(P<0.01),其电位降低值大于偏历组、合阳组(P<0.01).结论:NTS是针刺内关、足三里共同调节心功能的整合中枢之一.

Objective: To probe into the mechanisms of electroacupuncture (EA) at Shangjuxu (ST 37) for treatment of the ulcerative colitis (UC). Methods: Forty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: a normal group, a model group, a Shangjuxu group and a non-acupoint group, 10 rats in each group. The UC rat model was made with enema of trinitro-benzenesulfonic acid (TNBSA), and the changes of interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) and interleukin-4 (IL-4) contents after EA at Shangjuxu (ST 37) were observed. Results: EA at Shangjuxu (ST 37) could significantly decrease the IL-1 beta content and increase the IL-4 content in the colic tissues of the UC rats with significant differences as compared with the model group and the non-acupoint group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Conclusion: The mechanisms of EA at Shangjuxu (ST 37) for treatment of the UC rats is possibly related with the decrease of IL-1 beta, a inflammation-promoting cytokine, and the increase of IL-4, a anti-inflammatory cytokine.
